Ranking the 5 best NRL wingers

The NRL will soon be ready for round one, but which wingers will be staking their claim to be the best in the competition?

Below is our current top five, in descending order…

5. Brian To’o

Though To’o spent some of the year out with an ankle injury, the Penrith winger still scored eight tries and made eight linebreaks in 16 appearances. But, most importantly, it was To’o’s work coming out of defence that gets him on this list – 174m per game and 80 tackle breaks is nothing to be sniffed at.

4. Alex Johnston

Finished 2020 as the NRL’s top try-scorer with 23 tries in 22 games as well as an impressive 23 linebreaks and 48 tackle breaks. Remarkable really, then, that Souths let him go.

3. Josh Addo-Carr

Still one of the most impressive wingers in the NRL, Addo-Carr had yet another brilliant year in 2020. The Fox ended last season with 16 tries and 18 linebreaks in 21 appearances, and was instrumental in Melbourne’s Grand Final victory.

2. David Nofoaluma

Had his best-ever season in the NRL with 17 tries and 17 linebreaks in 20 games, making Nofoaluma the Dally M Winger of the Year. Was seriously unlucky not to be called up for NSW with a 178m average per game.

1. Daniel Tupou

The rangy winger had a seriously impressive 2020 despite missing quite a few games with injury. That being said, Tupou still registered 11 tries as well as ten linebreaks in 15 games. Racking up 181m per game, Tupou registered the equal-highest for a winger, earning a call-up into the NSW Origin side.
