Ranking Super League’s top five players of 2023 so far

With Super League enjoying a week off whilst the Challenge Cup quarter-finals take place, now is a good time to reflect on the season so far.

So here are our top five Super League players of the season.

5. Jack Welsby (St Helens)
Like St Helens, Welsby has struggled for consistency but when he is at his best he is the league’s best player. He devastated Wigan last week and if he captures some consistency he may find himself at the top of this list.

4. Paul Vaughan (Warrington Wolves)
Easily the best forward of the season. He is making metres with ease and providing Warrington with a real steal in the middle of the field and great leadership and experience. The club have already tied him down long term.

3. Bevan French (Wigan Warriors)
The only player to have double figures in tries and assists. Fast as light and somehow as strong as an ox, he is a brilliant player to watch and has done a job for Wigan at fullback, on the wing and in the halves this season.

2. Lachlan Lam (Leigh Leopards)
He has taken to Super League like a duck to water. Creating tries galore for his teammates out wide, he is one of the top halfbacks in Super League already which makes the interest from Canberra Raiders no surprise.

1. George Williams (Warrington Wolves)
But leading the way is George Williams. He has taken his England form into the Super League season and has been freed up brilliantly by Josh Drinkwater. He is scoring and creating tries and is back to his best.
