Ranking every Super League club by number of players signed for 2025

Leeds Rhinos ' Rhyse Martin claps after a Super League victory.

There have been 76 players signed to Super League clubs ahead of the 2025 season and we’ve ranked each club by number of signings made.

That works out an average of just over six players signed per club, however, one side has made just one signing whilst three teams have hit double figures.

With the off-season still not finished, there could yet be time for more but as of Christmas Eve, the running total of 76 players signed by Super League sides is accurate.

For clarity, players who had previously been on loan with a club in 2024 but have since signed permanently for the 2025 season do count as signings given that their contracted club has changed.

Moreover, loan deals for the 2025 season are also counted as signings.

Of the 76 signings made, 28 have been made from an overseas competition such as the NRL, Queensland Cup or New South Wales Cup, and a further five have been signed from either the Championship or League One (excluding London who represent a further five).

Ranking Super League clubs by total number of signings made for 2025

Wigan Warriors – 1

When you’re the champions, it is more about preserving your squad than building it and that has been the case at Wigan with Matt Peet’s side making just one signing – George Hirst from Oldham.

St Helens and Warrington Wolves – 3

Two play-off sides who have made limited signings albeit of very high quality with four of the combined six players arriving from Down Under, with all three of Saints’ signings hailing from the NRL.

Leeds Rhinos and Salford Red Devils – 5

Salford are the only team bar Wigan not to sign a player from overseas whereas Leeds have signed three of their five players from Down Under.

Catalans Dragons  and Huddersfield Giants – 6

Two teams who have seen heavy recruitment from the NRL with each side signing four from Down Under. For Huddersfield, three of those players came from South Sydney Rabbitohs whilst Catalans recruited both Nick Cotric and Elliott Whitehead from Canberra Raiders.

Castleford Tigers – 7

Like Catalans and Huddersfield, Cas have signed four players from Down Under but they’ve also seen the loan deals for Innes and Louis Senior become permanent which boosts their total from five to seven.

Hull KR – 9

The Robins finished their recruitment recently when signing Leon Ruan from Leeds Rhinos, but it is fellow former Rhino Rhyse Martin who was the club’s most notable Super League signing – joining a pack that’s set to be spearheaded by NRL legend Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

Hull FC  and Leigh Leopards – 10

It’s ironic that both Hull FC and Leigh have signed the same number of players considering that the Leopards are having to sign so heavily to replace players signed by the Black and Whites. Hull have signed four Leigh players, including Ed Chamberlain who ended the 2024 season at the MKM Stadium on loan, whilst Leigh have looked to the NRL and reserve comps for five of their signings.

Wakefield Trinity – 11

Having returned to Super League, it’s no surprise that Wakefield Trinity have made the most signings as they look to create a squad capable of not just surviving but competing. That’s seen them sign a new half-back pairing and one NRL youngster in Seth Nikotemo who is highly regarded by Trin.

Hull FC -panic buying. Hull KR – fixing the kicking problem, pack strengthening. Wigan – better have not have depleted their youth ranks too quickly. Warrington – it’s bound to be Warrington’s year, this year, again, again, again… St Helens – not strengthening through youth, dipping into the market, not necessarily a fix. Catalans – some terrifyingly good signings. Salford – hopefully overcome their financial woes, their fans deserve a good year for their faith. Leigh – shock at losing so many players, but the integrity of their coach, the passion of their own, the belief and support of their fans, good luck to them. Leeds – no opinion, don’t like them, not sure even Leeds fans like Leeds that much. Wakefield, Huddersfield, and Castleford fighting not to be last, to improve, and for stability.

Mostly I’m just looking forward to the new season. I’ve tried football in the off season, get bored after 20 minutes, non starter. Union, three minutes in I’m fast asleep, who watches this drivel, it reminds me of the ex-wife not lng after we started living together, a Surrey girl, after she mistakenly watched a match, and her “So, is Rugby Union for those too old, too fat, and not good enough to play Super League? All they do is kick it, then squabble over the ball”, ouch! She had some comments about Super League’s audience comprising so many women, and how she wasn’t surprised, and when were we going to see a match? She lit up like my mother when she found out I had a relative playing professionally, that poor lad needed a broom handle nearby to prise my mother off him, “Ooh you’re such a lovely young man! Nice muscles!”, the Wigan front line didn’t scare him, one glance of my mother he was off!

A merry Christmas to one and all, and a fantastic 2025 season for all!
