Race hots up for Murdoch-Masila

Widnes Vikings 10-46 Salford Red Devils

With reports suggesting Warrington have tabled a £170,000 bid for Salford second-row forward Ben Murdoch-Masila, we are led to believe that Hull KR are poised to enter the race to sign him.

The Robins were set to sign the former Wests Tigers forward last year had they won the Million Pound Game against the Red Devils, but the golden point drop-goal from Gareth O’ Brien meant Rovers would spend 2017 in the Championship.

Tim Sheens is now recruiting for a season back in Super League after they gained promotion finishing from the Qualifiers, and the big Tongan international is on top of his wanted list.

Despite the Super League Dream Team member signing a three-year contract in March, the departure of Salford owner Marwan Koukash may open the door for clubs to try to get their hands on the Red Devils’ star players.

Todd Carney hinted at problems at the AJ Bell Stadium when he tweeted that it was cost-cutting that led to his departure from Salford last month.

Murdoch-Masila was an integral part the Red Devils side that finished fourth in the regular season table and made the Challenge Cup semi-final.

A nightmare end to the season though saw them finish the Super 8s in seventh place and the 26-year-old, who scored an impressive 16 tries this campaign, is the club’s prize asset.

Murdoch-Masila may prefer to stay in the North West and join the new revolution Warrington, but it looks like they have a battle for his signature from East Hull if he is allowed to leave.
