Challenge Cup Quiz: Name the runners-up from every year since 1996

Challenge Cup quiz

This Challenge Cup quiz will test your knowledge of the competition in the summer era.

Since 1996, we have seen the Challenge Cup Final take place in either May or August, with the move to summer rugby and the rebrand to Super League leading to changes to the oldest competition in the sport.

The Challenge Cup still remains a prestigious trophy and one of only two major prizes on offer to Super League clubs throughout the season, alongside the Super League trophy won by the team that wins the Grand Final in October.

Though the format of the Challenge Cup continues to change, the value of the competition remains high and the final at Wembley Stadium is for many still the highlight of the rugby league calendar.

Super League teams continue to dominate the competition, with it now a rare occurrence for a team from outside the top flight to make it to even the semi-finals – though this has happened with Halifax reaching the last four in 2019.

But the real pain is often felt most by the losing finalists, with the build-up and anticipation on Challenge Cup Final week only serving to highlight the magnitude of the event.

Therefore for those who fall short in the final, it is a bitter pill to swallow having worked so hard to make it to the final. It’s a feeling no player or team wants, but someone unfortunately has to experience this.

It’s often much easier to remember the winners of the Challenge Cup, with the runners-up often forgotten. Therefore we want to test your knowledge below and see if you can remember all Challenge Cup runners-up since 1996.

Take our Challenge Cup quiz now and see if you can get all 10 questions correct.
