“Put your ego away” – Ian Watson unhappy after defeat to Hull KR

Huddersfield Giants haven’t yet lived up to the hype that there was around them going into this season.

There is still time for their star-studded squad to build into the season.

However, reflecting on their latest defeat as they were held scoreless against Hull KR last week, coach Ian Watson has underlined how unhappy he was with the display.

Speaking to Giants TV, Watson revealed what went wrong for his side as they were outplayed.

The Giants have now lost six of their 10 games this season. They do have a game in hand but that is against Champions St Helens.

They are currently in the bottom four level on points with Hull FC.

“It’s just not good enough.

“We’ve got three fullbacks playing at the moment so maybe it is more my fault in selecting them but they’re not thick players,” Watson said of his side.

“When you’re playing wet weather rugby, you have got to be smarter. It’s just not working at the moment.

“We’re desperate to have Theo Fages or Olly Russell back out there to give us some more control. But the disappointing thing was some people just weren’t competing, they just thought it wasn’t them but it’s a team game.

“You have to put your ego away and do the right thing. Look at Hull KR, there’s no egos there. They’re all working really hard and doing the right. They deserved it.”
