Promised Featherstone Rovers signing confirmed to be Warrington Wolves halfback

The signing Featherstone Rovers promised has been announced tonight.

The club have brought in Warrington Wolves halfback Riley Dean on loan for the 2023 season as the replacement for Wakefield Trinity signing Morgan Smith and the departed Ryley Jacks.

A Riley for a Ryley it appears.

Wishing the young man well, the Wolves said in a statement:

“Riley Dean will join Featherstone Rovers on a season-long loan for the 2023 season. The young half-back will continue to train full-time with our first team squad and will have a two-week recall option.

“Riley will gain invaluable experience on loan to Rovers who have been one of the Championship’s in-form teams in recent years. We wish Riley the best of luck during his loan spell.”

It comes after the number seven shirt at the Halliwell Jones Stadium was given to former Hull KR and Catalans Dragons star Josh Drinkwater who joins George Williams in the halves for next year.

The club also have another young halfback in the shape of young Leon Hayes who is highly thought of.

The Wolves also announced the signing of former player Matty Russell who had been linked with the Rovers this week.

The signing of Riley at the Rovers seemingly ends speculation that former Man of Steel Luke Gale, formerly of the Castleford Tigers, Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC, could be headed to Post Office Road.

The same could be said of Fijian halfback Brandon Wakeham.
