Prince William sent a personal message to the family of Rob Burrow after his passing it’s been revealed by his widow Lindsey Burrow, with the Prince of Wales having formed a connection with the Leeds Rhinos legend previously when awarding his much-deserved CBE.

It’s been almost three weeks since the passing of the legendary Leeds Rhinos player and inspirational MND campaigner Rob Burrow with the club set to pay tribute to Burrow and celebrate his life tonight at Headingley when the Rhinos play Leigh Leopards. The club have announced a host of things that will happen to celebrate the life of their legendary player with Burrow’s family also expected to be in attendance too.

Lindsey Burrow released a statement at the time of Rob’s passing in which she labelled him her ‘hero’ and she has also since spoken this week about having gone on a trek to raise funds to combat Motor Neurone Disease, explaining: “It’s really important to me to be here to support Ian and the MND community. Rob knew I was going to do the walk and I never like letting people down, so just to be here today to support Ian and to see the turnout is just fantastic.”

She has since spoken to BBC Breakfast, who were brilliant in their support of Rob and helped document his wife against MND, with Lindsey revealing how she’s faring in the aftermath of losing her husband, whilst revealing the special message she received from Prince William.

Rob Burrow met Prince William back in January when he was awarded his CBE with the Prince of Wales surprising Burrow and Kevin Sinfield at Headingley to hand over the award. The pair seemed to strike up a bond and Lindsey Burrow has now revealed that Prince William sent a touching message of support, one that the family will “treasure forever”.

She told BBC Breakfast: “The one that really sticks out, the one that is so special to me was a message, a personal message as a parent from His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, and that was really heartwarming, really sincere, and that’s something that we will treasure as a family forever.

“Rob got to meet Prince William back in January when he was awarded his CBE and he came to Headingley and he was just really genuine and sincere.  That’s again a day that we’ll remember and treasure forever and to get that message from Prince William has given us a lot of comfort and will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Many had argued that Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield should be Sirs by now, including former teammate Barrie McDermott, however, for Lindsey it was always just about spending time with her beloved. She gave a touching and emotional message as to her life with him and how she will go forward without him.

“I’m incredibly proud to have been Rob’s wife for 17 and a half years, to have three beautiful children with Rob and that’s what we have to focus on now. The children are my priority, and I’ll do everything I can to make sure that they’re brought up just exactly as Rob would want them to be brought up. To be kind and caring and, you know, to appreciate the things in life. Rob was very much like that, he was very down to work, never had an ego, just such a lovely, kind man. I’m so grateful I got to call him my husband.”

It’s expected Lindsey and the Burrow family will be at Headingley tonight where a 15-year record is expected to be set in terms of attendance. Information on that game can be found here.
