Price gutted with end to season

Warrington Wolves Head Coach Steve Price admitted he and his team were gutted to have been beaten by Hull FC in the playoffs.

The Wire finished third at the end of the regular season, but were beaten by the Black and Whites 27-14 at home, meaning they fell at the first hurdle for the second year running.

Price said his side felt as though they had a real chance to do something this year. But ultimately, they were not good enough and beaten by the better side.

He said: “We thought as a group that we had it right over the last couple of weeks, with training and intensity.

“I thought we started reasonably positive. We got unlucky with the Jack Hughes call, I thought it was stripped. Naulago plays the ball, and they then score on the next set.

“At the end of the day, they were better than us tonight. The standards we set ourselves as a club, we didnt hit, which was disappointing.

“A lot of people in the changing room are gutted. We thought we had a really good chance, but we weren’t good enough.

“We were beaten by a very good Hull FC side.”
