Price is bookies favourite for Wire job

Super League sponsors Betfred have installed Cronulla assistant coach Steve Price as their 7/4 favourite to replace Tony Smith as head coach of the Warrington Wolves.

Price, who had a spell as head coach of the St George Illawarra Dragons until 2014, is said to fancy another shot at being the man in charge and this has alerted the board at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Ex-Wigan and South Sydney head coach Michael McGuire is now second favourite at 2/1, while last week’s favourite Garth Brennan is 3/1.

Canberra assistant coach Dean Pay is 6/1, with Bradford boss Geoff Toovey at 9/2. Former Canterbury coach Des Hasler is now in the running at 8/1 with all other candidates available at double figure odds.

These markets are notoriously bookie friendly as some football manager markets have been known to have 8 or 9 odds-on favourites as rumours spread.
