Price blasts ‘unacceptable’ Warrington performance

Warrington went down 28-22 to Wakefield this afternoon and the Wolves’ head coach Steve Price was not happy with his side’s performance.

Warrington trailed 26-6 at one stage only to come back to within six points at 28-22 by the time the final whistle came, but Price deemed the result “unacceptable.”

“For 35 minutes we were great but we left ourselves with too much to do,” Price said.

“That first-half was unacceptable, what we pride ourselves on is defending strong but in the first set we gave away a penalty and get bogged down on our try-line.

“I’m not taking anything away from Wakefield they were really good today.”

Price bemoaned injuries and the COVID situation, but said this wasn’t to blame for the loss.

“We didn’t play last week with the Hull FC situation but that’s no excuse.

“The start of the game was nowhere near where we needed to be.

“We made it really hard, we couldn’t get any ruck speed through a lack of support play.

“We had a couple of disruptions and injuries with COVID situations but, we had a good enough team out there today.”

The Warrington boss will welcome back a few players for Thursday when Warrington take on Catalans.

“Robbie Mulhern had an eye operation and a couple of players were out with COVID – hopefully Robbie will be back and won’t be too far away for next week.

“Jack Hughes, Daryl Clark, Joe Philbin, Jason Clark and Ellis Longstafff could return next week.”
