Premier Sports records stunning audience figures in Widnes Vikings and Barrow Raiders clash

Premier Sports has been taking rugby league by storm in recent weeks.

Since the rugby league season started, the broadcasting company has been receiving all sorts of praise for the breath of fresh air for the sport, with pundits Leon Pryce, Kevin Brown, Andrew Henderson and host Emma Jones taking the game by the scruff of the neck.

And, following Monday night’s fixture between Widnes Vikings and Barrow Raiders, Premier Sports recorded some incredible figures for Championship viewing.

Over 72,000 watched the fixture which bodes well for the future of Championship coverage.

It follows the news that the 2022 Women’s Rugby League season starts this weekend with the group stages of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup.

And, to kick off a year which builds to a home World Cup in the autumn, BBC Sport will show the first match of the season as Cup holders St Helens travel to Barrow Raiders Ladies.

Watch it live on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website from 2pm Saturday, March 12 – the first part of a Cumbrian double, as BBC Sport will also cover the men’s Betfred Challenge Cup tie between Barrow Raiders and Workington Town the following day (1pm).
