The Man of Steel is the most prestigious individual award a rugby league player can win.
Sam Tomkins is the reigning holder after excelling for Catalans Dragons in 2021, helping the French club to their first ever Grand Final.
However, there is another fullback who has exploded onto the scene in 2022 – Wigan Warriors’ Jai Field.
And, for Premier Sports pundits Kevin Brown and Leon Pryce, he would be their favourite for winning the Man of Steel in his current form.
“For me he’s the Man of Steel – he’s been the best in the league,” Brown said.
“The only game he hasn’t excelled in is Catalans, but when I was playing I played against those like him and he’d run at you.
“You’d say no and drop back on your heels and Jai is that, but the form in himself this year is frightening.”
Pryce also waxed lyrical about Field – who missed most of the 2021 season through injury.
“He’s the difference at the moment because without him they probably wouldn’t have the record they do at the moment.
“He’s an x factor player and he breaks the line so often – you just can’t coach the ability to defend against speed.
