Predicted Super League table with big Warrington Wolves, Leeds Rhinos, Hull KR and St Helens calls made

Super League

Wigan Warriors might be second in the Super League table right now but they’re still the favourites to win the Grand Final in October.

The Cherry and Whites find themselves two points behind Saturday’s Challenge Cup winners Hull KR and it’s fair to say the battle for the League Leaders’ Shield looks set to be an exciting one, with both sides looking more than capable of claiming the league crown.

When it comes to the Grand Final, though, Wigan are the still the side the bookies are backing. Matt Peet’s side are at 10/11 with Betfred to win at Old Trafford in October and claim a third straight Grand Final crown.

KR are in the driving seat in the league and with the Challenge Cup in the bag, they’ll be feeling confident about their chances of avenging last year’s Grand Final. Their odds of doing that have fallen to 2/1 now, placing them marginally behind the frontrunners from the Brick Community Stadium.

St Helens remain third in the odds list despite sitting sixth in the table at present, having lost six of their opening 13 games. Paul Wellens’ side have developed a worrying habit of losing their biggest games and unless that changes, they could struggle for a spot in the play-offs, let alone a Grand Final berth.

However, Betfred have them at 9/1 to win the Grand Final. That’s ahead of Leeds Rhinos who are third in the live table but fourth in the odds list at 11/1.

The Rhinos have been improving under Brad Arthur and should they continue to impress, you’d imagine those odds will become shorter in the coming weeks.

Warrington Wolves, who missed out at Wembley on Saturday, have seen their odds lengthen from 8/1 to 18/1 over the last two months. That’s a symptom of the inconsistency they have shown in Super League and they sit in eighth as a result.

Leigh Leopards and Hull FC are both at 28/1 with the latter falling from 40/1 earlier in the season, while Wakefield Trinity are now at 40s.

Catalans have slipped alarmingly down the odds list due to their recent form and they are now at 150/1 to win the Grand Final.

As we prepare to tick past the halfway point of the season, we take a look at the latest Grand Final odds and how the bookies think the Super League table could look after round 27.

I wouldn’t touch those bets on St Helens and Warrington. But the odds on Hull FC and Wakefield making the top 6 look attractive. I’d go Hull KR, Wigan, Leeds, Hull FC, Leigh, & Wakefield. If you’re doing next coach to be sacked, taking Salford out of the equation, then Paul Wellens will do well to be in a job by the playoffs. Next candidate, Sam Burgess. At the other end Daryl Powell should get sainthood for what he’s achieving at Wakefield, Willie Peters need never pay for a drink in East Hull again, and Matt Peet might get the Manchester United job he’s that good a manager!
