Powell’s Tigers in injury crisis following Wigan game

Castleford went down 22-12 to Wigan, but Tigers boss Daryl Powell believed that the game was won in one simple part of the game.

“There was a real turning point with Zak Hardaker’s break from a poor kick chase and they got the momentum from that,” Powell said.

“We worked hard, but I don’t think we were ever at our best tonight; we were in it for large parts of the game, but we lacked a little bit of quality in good attacking positions and defensively we need to improve too.

“We had 18 players to pick from today, but I thought the players that came in did really well – it was close.

Castleford’s injury nightmare went from bad to worse during the game as Powell lost a number of key men.

“Grant Millington failed the head test; you could see by the way he went down that he would have instantly failed it. We will wait and see and if he gets through the checks during the week.

“Jordan Turner had a bit of a groin injury so we will have to check on him too; we’ve got two halfbacks injured at the moment and its not ideal getting another one injured.

“The game is like that at the moment, and fingers crossed we don’t get too many more injuries.”
