Castleford Tigers head coach Daryl Powell says he and his players remain unfazed by the changes to the fixture schedule for this weekend.
The Tigers were initially scheduled to meet Hull FC only for the match to be postponed due to several Hull players testing positive for COVID-19.
After a reshuffle, it was confirmed on Wednesday that Castleford will now face champions St Helens on Sunday at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
But the Tigers boss revealed that the RFL went through various opponents for his side before landing on the Saints.
“I received a call from Jon Wells saying our fixture has been changed.” Powell explained. “Rather than play Hull FC, initially we were facing Hull KR, only to have it changed again to face St Helens.
“Given how the Saints are playing since the restart, this challenge is as tough as they come.
“They have started exceptionally well, producing some exciting and unpredictable rugby league so we have to be at our very best against them.”
Castleford were well beaten 40-14 by Catalans last weekend in their first game back since the Super League restart.
Despite their heavy loss, Powell is remaining upbeat and is hoping they can build on their start against the Dragons at Headingley that saw the Tigers race into a 14-0 lead.
“I was impressed by the rugby we played early on against Catalans,” said Powell. “We allowed them back too easily I thought, plus the sin-bin did not help so we have to put that right.
“Though Peter Mata’utia is suspended, I am happy to welcome back the likes of Liam Watts following his accident, as well as Nathan Massey after his partner gave birth to his new-born son.
“Plus there are our new signings in Gareth O’Brien and Sosaia Feki, who I am confident will play.
“It should be an interesting game. We defeated them back in March so we are capable.
“We just have to be smart as well as disciplined to stand any chance but should we get the basics right, then we should be good to go from there.”
