Police arrest 56-year-old male in connection to racist abuse towards Wigan Warriors star Junior Nsemba

A 56-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the vile and racist abuse aimed at Wigan Warriors player Junior Nsemba.

Following the Warriors’ victory over St Helens, Nsemba was the target of racist abuse on social media, forcing the club to rightfully contact the relevant authorities.

The incident was handed over to the police, and now it has been revealed that a man from the St Helens area has been arrested on suspicion of a “racially aggravated malicious communication offence.”

The news has been confirmed by Wigan and Leigh Police via social media, who shared the following statement:

“Earlier this week, and following on from Super League Magic Weekend, Officers from Wigan’s Neighbourhood Team were made aware of an online incident where racist abuse was directed towards one of the players.

“Following an investigation into the matter and with the support of both Wigan Warriors and St Helens RLFC we were able to identify a male who we believe may be able to assist us with our enquiries.

“Shortly before 8am this morning (Friday 10 July 2026), officers from Wigan’s Neighbourhood Tasking Team arrested a 56-year-old male from the St Helens area on suspicion of a racially aggravated malicious communication offence. He currently remains in custody awaiting interview.

Well done Junior, for not listening to that sort of crap. You need to believe that you are a very good rugby player & England needs you at the end of the season.
