PNG Chiefs confirm signing of London Broncos trio as timeline for exit laid out

As reported earlier this week, three London Broncos players will depart the club in order to join PNG Chiefs.

Morea Morea, Gairo Voro and Finley Glare will all make the move back to their country of birth and link up with Willie Peters’ side ahead of their inclusion in the NRL in 2028.

The trio all joined London at the start of this season, alongside Kumuls boss Jason Demetriou, with their long-term plan being that after a stint in England’s capital, they would link up with the Chiefs, who understand the need to have homegrown PNG players in their side.

It has been rumoured that the three will all sign development contracts, rather than Top 30 deals, meaning they may have to wait before they make their NRL debut.

The Chiefs have already signed Alex Johnston, the NRL’s all-time top try scorer, Jarome Luai, Matty Lees and Connor Watson, so their squad ahead of 2028 is already looking significantly strong.

In a boost for London, all three will remain at the club until the end of 2027, meaning they will spend one season in Super League, should the Broncos get promoted at the end of the season.

PNG Chiefs land triple London Broncos signing

Head Coach Demetriou said: “We’re incredibly proud of Morea, Gairo and Finley and everything they have achieved during their time at the club. This opportunity to join the PNG Chiefs for their inaugural NRL season is a testament to their hard work, dedication and sacrifice.

“Their time at the Broncos has given them a platform to showcase their talent and prepare them for the opportunity to play in the NRL in PNG. They will continue to play a pivotal role in the Broncos rise to Super League.”

Morea added: “Signing with the PNG Chiefs is incredibly special. Growing up, playing in the NRL was always a dream of mine, so this is another step towards achieving that. To have the opportunity to do it with my home team makes it even more meaningful. For now, though, my full focus is on the London Broncos over the next 18 months. I’m excited about what we can achieve and want to make the most of every opportunity before taking the next step in my career.”

Voro said: “I’m really happy to have signed with the PNG Chiefs. It’s a very exciting opportunity for me, and my family are incredibly proud and excited as well. My focus is on the London Broncos. I’m looking forward to playing well and helping the club achieve its goals before moving to the Chiefs.”

Glare added: “I’m excited and honoured to be joining the PNG Chiefs, and I’m grateful for the opportunity. It’s a proud moment for me and my family. My focus is on the London Broncos now, and I’m looking forward to giving my best for the club over the next two seasons before moving to the Chiefs.”
