Phil Clarke surprisingly labels Super League side as “terrible” despite impressive start to the season

After a dramatic Round Three of Super League action, only two unbeaten sides remain.

Hull KR were beaten in stunning fashion by a Leigh Leopards side getting their first win of the season thanks to a dramatic Josh Charnley try in the corner.

Champions St Helens were also beaten in dramatic fashion in only their second game of the season with Blake Austin nailing a drop goal.

Meanwhile, Hull FC were beaten by Catalans Dragons in France ending their unbeaten run but sustaining the French side’s perfect start.

Elsewhere Warrington Wolves made it three wins from three to start the season against Salford Red Devils.

Despite their perfect start, Phil Clarke hasn’t been impressed at all by the Catalans Dragons however.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “I thought Catalans were terrible in their first two games of the season, they were missing some significant players but they have bounced right back here.

“They will have to play very well to beat the Wigan Warriors.”

This came as he and Paul Sculthorpe praised Wigan’s Liam Marshall:

“He is one of the best finishers in Super League. You don’t have to be the quickest player, you just have to know how to finish chances.

“He is in the right place and right time and has pace to add to that too.

“Winning away was important for them .

“You have to admire Liam Marshall. He competes for everything and it comes up for him.”

The Warriors nilled Castleford Tigers and Friday making it three defeats in a row to start the season for them.

They said there is work to be done: “They have made some big signings this year. There is work to be done.”
