Phil Clarke says Warrington fans are “one defeat away from a meltdown”

After winning their opening eight games of the season Warrington Wolves have lost the last two games.

There is now shame in those defeats however.

They have gone up against last year’s top two and the two teams who won the three trophies on offer last year.

They have also done so without many of their key forwards on which their early season success was built.

On Friday night the second of their back to back defeats was inflicted by Super League and World Champions St Helens who won 28-6 but there was a brief spell in the game when the Wolves looked to have the better of the Champions and if they’d have kept this up a win would have come their way.

Now though Phil Clarke claims that Warrington fans are just one more defeat away from a meltdown.

He said on Sky Sports that the attitude amongst the fans will now be different:

“All their fans thought they were going to a Grand Final and now they are one more defeat away from a meltdown,” he said.

He also praised St Helens for their youth development, adding:

“The other thing I learnt from last night is that St Helens are still the best at youth development. Players like Sam Royale and George Delaney were playing at a top level.”
