Phil Clarke says Super League side are not respected

Today Paul Rowley’s Salford Red Devils edged a brilliant game in the sunshine away at Leigh Leopards when some late drama nearly saw the Red Devils throw away the game.

However, Paul Rowley was seen smiling after the game on Sky Sports and Brian Carney said of the coach:

“Paul Rowley smiling in victory there. Most coaches in Super League if their side had left it so late to secure a win, they would be fuming but not Paul Rowley.

“He knows it’s part of the game and part of the entertainment.”

However, Phil Clarke believed it could be because he has more respect for Leigh than others with some, in the eyes of Clarke, not giving Super League’s new boys enough credit:

“He does and perhaps he has a respect for Leigh that others in this league don’t yet have or maybe the neutrals don’t have because of their record of promotion and relegation from Super League maybe they don’t give them the credit they deserve.

“We have seen these two teams play twice and I think that was a smile of relief from Paul Rowley.

“They have picked up four points on the league at a place where some teams won’t.”

The Leopards have been impressive since the start of the season however and will surely attract more and more respect.
