Last night Champions St Helens got back to winning ways against Hull FC but they were less than convincing.
That is two wins from the first four for the Super League and World Champions after defeats to Leeds Rhinos and Leigh Leopards.
Speaking after their win over Hull FC, Phil Clarke explained why Saints haven’t been at their best to start the season and suggested that the Saints have been found out:
“They peaked for that World Club Challenge and there has to be a dip after that. People might say no it’s not the case but I still think they are trying to get back to their best.
“Another point to make is after four years of dominance, it has taken teams a long time but teams are starting to work out the strengths of this St Helens side and the best way to nullify that such as moving the ball wide to try and nullify that.
“I think they’re under a bit of pressure.”
This was echoed by Terry O’Connor though he also praised Hull FC:
“There is a lot of pressure on young Jack Welsby, he seems to be the go to man who is going to pull them out of trouble.
“I think teams, you have to be really happy with the way Hull FC performed, I always look at them and expect them to perform and they always let you down but that was the performance they needed.”
