Phil Clarke says Hull KR could become the best side in the country under Willie Peters

Hull KR made it five wins on the spin tonight as they defeated Castleford Tigers 12-7.

There is a buzz around the club and success on and off the field and Phil Clarke suggested that under Willie Peters they could become the best side in the country for the first time in nearly half a century.

He said: “What a responsibility he has. What expectations. It has been about 40 years since Hull KR were the best side in this country and he has a great chance to take them back to that level.

“They have great foundations and not many sides or clubs have the support that Hull KR have at present.

“That has to provide for them. Every team says our supporters helped us but this is different. Not every team has that.”

He is also backing Jordan Abdull for the Man of Steel award.

“Hull KR have won the Man of Steel once and in Jordan Abdull they have a big chance to do it again.

“If they keep winning games, he will keep on picking up points.”

Clarke pointed out the amazing support from the Hull KR fans as well as they made it very hard to interview Peters.

He believes this is proof that something special is building at the club:

“I just want to point out the travelling support. It is like something I have not seen in a while at Hull KR and this has helped them tonight.

“Lots of good work being done by Hull KR behind the scenes as well. Good things happening at Hull KR.

“Backing up a win against St Helens, coming here to Castleford and backing up that win at a ground that they have struggled at in the past.

“You can tell because of the travelling army of fans that something special is happening at the club.

“There is something happening at that club.”
