Phil Clarke raises massive concern for Wigan Warriors

Phil Clarke has raised a massive concern for Wigan Warriors.

It is one that he has routinely brought up throughout the course of this season.

It is of course focused on the Warriors’ halfbacks.

Speaking on Sky Sports he revealed that Wigan have had six stand-offs in 2023 and none of them have worked.

“I find it fascinating. I said back when they lost to Catalans Dragons at home back in Round Four, that stand-off was an issue for them,” Clarke said.

“This is Round 15 and Bevan French is the fifth player out of the squad to start at stand-off and I think Sam Powell has played some of a game there.

“So they have tried six players in 15 games in one position and that has an impact collectively on their attacking game.”

This came as it was suggested that playing Jai Field or Bevan French in that role is hurting their defence.

Brian Carney said: “They had no issues defensively earlier this season but lately it has collapsed in recent weeks.”

He then went on to speak about Bevan French himself:

“He is not known for his defence and that is okay because he’s the best attacking player.”
