Phil Clarke raises huge Wigan Warriors concern

Wigan Warriors are in a bad run of form at the moment.

That got worse against their bitter rivals last week St Helens as they were soundly beaten by the Super League and World Champions 34-16.

It was in stark contrast to Wigan’s win over the Saints on Good Friday when Wigan were at their defensive best.

This is the area that Phil Clarke sees as a massive concern for the Warriors.

“It does seem a long time ago when Wigan could defend like that,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Wigan have conceded 42 tries in total this season and 25 of those have come in the last four matches, more than half in the last four games.

“That has been their problem.

“We are all excited to Jai Field and Bevan French, they are so exciting in attack but unless Wigan can dramatically improve their defence from last week then they stand little chance.”

Paul Sculthorpe then added:

“Matty Peet prides himself on defence and recently it hasn’t been acceptable.”

Wigan look to get back on the horse against Warrington Wolves this week in the Challenge Cup.

They are back home for the first time in over a month.
