Phil Clarke has his say on controversial yellow card decision in Wigan Warriors clash

Wigan Warriors surprisingly trail 12-2 to Catalans Dragons at home.

The winner of this clash will go top of the league but presently it is the unbeaten Catalans Dragons in pole position despite the cold conditions which are a world apart from the South of France.

The French side haven’t won at Wigan in 15 attempts and have eight first team players missing but led 12-0 after tries from Manu Ma’u and Arthur Romano.

However, Wigan trimmed the lead down to 12-2 after a yellow card for Ma’u for a late hit on Harry Smith.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Phil Clarke disagreed with the call saying:

“That’s not a yellow card for me. It is a tough call that he has to make but it could be a turning point.

“Wigan need to take advantage. Matty Peet will be a very frustrated coach with the detail from his side.”

His opinion was opposed by Jamie Jones-Buchanan who believes that it was a silly play as was an incident from Michael McIlorum.

He said:

“Listen the only down fall from Catalans is that they get over aroused sometimes and get too aggressive. You don’t want to give penalties away and you don’t need to do that. You’re winning.”
