Phil Clarke compares Super League halfback to Benji Marshall

Benji Marshall trains with his new club Brisbane Broncos.

He loves to make a statement, but Phil Clarke made another live on Sky Sports last night.

Clarke was a studio pundit as Catalans Dragons hosted Hull KR at the Stade Gilbert Brutus and he was in fine form as he began to compare superb young talent Mikey Lewis with current NRL Grand Finalist Benji Marshall.

Marshall had excelled in the 2005 Grand Final with Wests Tigers, wowing audiences with some sublime skill as the Tigers ran out 30-16 winners.

And, in sensational fashion, Clarke believes he sees comparisons between the two.

“There was a certain halfback in the 2005 NRL Grand Final by the name of Benji Marshall who can do off-the-cuff brilliance and we’ve seen that Mikey Lewis can do exactly that,” Clarke said.

“He did it with a superb try against Warrington and he isn’t afraid to try anything new.”
