Peter Mata’utia will run out in the colours of the Warrington Wolves in 2022 after a three-and-a-half year spell at the Castleford Tigers.

His head coach there was Daryl Powell – who himself had been at the Jungle for eight-and-a-half years – and Mata’utia has revealed that the pull of working with the former Leeds Rhinos and Featherstone Rovers boss was too good to turn down.

“When you get to play under a coach who trusts you and knows what to expect it makes your job easier,” Mata’utia told the Warrington Twitter account.

“It’s going to be really good to play under him again.”

For Mata’utia, he feels honoured to be at the Halliwell Jones, especially because he will be working with an array of talented players.

“It’s a privilege to be at this club – I get to work with Powelly (Daryl Powell) again and get to have an impact on the younger blokes.

“I also get to play with what I believe is the best spine in the competition.”

Within that spine is Stefan Ratchford, Gareth Widdop, George Williams and Daryl Clark – with hooker Danny Walker also able to play an important role off the bench.

That spine is what Powell labelled earlier in the week, “as good as anything in Super League and potentially the world of Rugby League.”
