Penrith star set to sign for Super League club

Panthers veteran Dean Whare is heading for the exit, with the south of France his next destination.

The 31-year-old was contracted to Penrith for the 2021 season and even had the option to remain at the Blue Mountains for 2022. However, the lure of Super League with the Catalans Dragons has proved too much.

Whare, a centre by nature, found himself out of favour during the latter half of the season as Brent Naden and Stephen Crichton took the centre berths by storm. That meant that the Kiwi played just eight times in 2020.

Having finished sixth in Super League last season, the Dragons will be hoping Whare can help them become a top-four side.
