Penrith Panthers forward ‘close to securing a deal’ with Super League club

An English Super League club is on the brink of securing a deal for a Penrith Panthers forward.

That’s according to the Daily Telegraph which explains why Penrith have brought in Wests Tigers back-rower Luke Garner.

In Phil ‘Buzz’ Rothfield’s Daily Telegraph column, he wrote: “Which Penrith Panthers forward is close to securing a deal with an English Super League club? This is partly why the Panthers have signed Luke Garner from the Wests Tigers.”

Among those back-rowers still on the books at the Panthers are J’maine Hopgood, Matt Eisenhuth, Mavrik Geyer, Chris Smith, Preston Riki, Scott Sorensen, Liam Martin and Viliame Kikau.

Kikau will take up a deal at the Canterbury Bulldogs from 2023 so that rules the big Fijian out, whilst Martin is under contract until the end of 2023.

From that list only Chris Smith, J’maine Hopgood and Matt Eisenhuth is out of contract at the end of 2022 so it appears as though one of this trio will be leaving Australian shores for Super League – either immediately or from 2023.
