Paul Sculthorpe says this Super League side won’t be in contention to win trophies

Leeds Rhinos have won five of their opening 10 games to start the Super League season.

They have at times looked special especially in defeating some of the top contenders going into the season such as Huddersfield Giants, St Helens and Catalans Dragons.

However, Rohan Smith sparked widespread debate when he said: “We’re not a great team but we’re going okay.”

This is perhaps because the Rhinos have turned out some lukewarm displays in games you would have expected them to win.

They have lost to two of the bottom three.

It is these inconsistencies that have prompted Paul Sculthorpe to say this side will not be in the mix to win trophies.

He said on the Last Tackle Podcast:

“They’re inconsistent and people were talking about Leeds before the season started and I never ever thought that.

“I never ever thought that they’d be in contention of winning trophies because of their inconsistencies.

“I think there’s too many players not performing.”

The Rhinos did reach the Grand Final last year defying the odds to do so.

Also their ability to defeat the top teams could also stand them in a good position to win the cup.

They do have a huge test against Wigan Warriors in their opening game.

They defeated Wigan twice last year in what were essentially do or die games for the Rhinos.
