Salford were so close to victory today.
After trailing 24-12 at the break despite a positive first 40 from the Red Devils, they battled back to 24-all after a lovely Brodie Croft grubber set Alex Gerrard up for a try prior to a Ken Sio intercept which levelled the game.
However, a superb Jai Field try in the last minute denied them despite such a positive performance from the Red Devils who have struggled for results recently.
After the match, Head Coach Paul Rowley reflected on the game on Channel 4 opening up on how gutted he was for his players: “Gutted for the lads really, they put a tremendous effort in. For 20 minutes they were out on their feet but credit Wigan.
“I said before the game they’d keep turning it back into the middle and they did but I think that’s credit to our D on edges. We put a lot of pressure on them on the edges and, for the most, did well.
“For a team that’s pretty bust up at the minute, there were a lot of good signs for us.
“We’re never up in defeat. There will be moments that we’ll pick out from that we can improve but in terms of effort and commitment and the character we’ve got a big thumbs up there.”
