Paul Rowley makes surprising decision in the pack as he names star-studded line up for today’s game

Salford Red Devils had a fantastic season in 2022. Playing mesmeric rugby, the Red Devils revived their season at the halfway mark climbing all the way to the play-offs and making the semi-finals and giving Champions St Helens a run for their money.

Unlike in previous years when Salford have enjoyed success, the Red Devils have kept their star players together ahead of the 2023 campaign and are looking to kick on and have the chance to get ready for the new season against Swinton Lions today.

As Paul Rowley’s side hope to sharpen their arsenal full of weapons ahead of the new season so that they can again be the entertainers in Super League in 2023, he has named his first team of 2023.

The Red Devils have named a very strong starting line-up.

In fact, their backs are almost at full strength with the only member of their first choice backline from 2022 to be absent is Joe Burgess.

This sees Rhys Williams start on the wing with Deon Cross and Tim Lafai at centre with Ken Sio on the right edge as per usual.

Ryan Brierley is looking to get ready for the new season after surgery as he starts at fullback with Brodie Croft and Marc Sneyd are of course the halves with Andy Ackers at nine.

Rowley has given a hint at his first choice props with numbers eight and ten Jack Ormondroyd and King Vuniyayawa both on the bench as is new 13 from Wigan Warriors Oliver Partington with Tyler Dupree, Alex Gerrard and Shane Wright starting down the middle.

In the absence of skipper Kallum Watkins Warrington Wolves Ellis Longstaff starts in the backrow with Andrew Dixon.
