Salford make surprise Tyler Dupree decision after transfer request

Super League star Tyler Dupree has made a transfer request to the Salford Red Devils.

Salford’s Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease clarified the club’s position regarding Dupree earlier this week.

“I can confirm the club have received a transfer request from the agent of Tyler Dupree today. We have strongly refused the request, with the player still a big part of our plans going forward.

“As a club, we are committed to retaining our players and after a recent extension, Tyler is contracted until the end of 2025.”

Last week the club confirmed they had rejected a transfer for an unnamed player, now confirmed to be Dupree with two bids from Hull KR. This shows the impact of the money they have raised through the club’s Reds Rise Together scheme as in the past they have had to accept such fees to keep the club afloat.

Earlier this week, Dupree broke his silence on the matter.

He took to Twitter to say:

“Two sides to every story. The truth will always be the truth even if no one believes it.”

A cryptic message from the prop, what it means exactly remains to be seen.

It was always going to be interesting to see whether Dupree was named in Salford’s next squad as they prepare for Sunday’s clash with Hull FC.

Interestingly, Dupree has been named in Salford’s squad for the game.

Ken Sio and Tim Lafai also return from injuries.

As for Hull FC, Tony Smith has made two changes to his 21-man squad for the trip across the Pennines.

The head coach confirmed in yesterday’s press conference that Carlos Tuimavave won’t be available for selection this week, having pulled up with a hamstring issue.

Will Gardiner is the other man to make way in the squad this week, with the forward expected to get some more valuable minutes for the Reserves when they face Salford tomorrow afternoon.

The pair are replaced by Scott Taylor, who returns from a one-match suspension, and Harvey Barron.
