Paul Rowley identifies key player who “overruled him” and identifies Salford star deserving of England call up

Tonight Paul Rowley’s Salford side truly showed the worth of their current project as they came up with a brilliant performance to down Leeds Rhinos.

His side weren’t always perfect, but in the last 12 minutes they blew the Rhinos away turning a 12-8 deficit into a 26-12 victory with three brilliant tries.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Rowley couldn’t have been prouder “smiling inside” as he went to speak to Jenna Brooks.

“The grit and determination was there,” Rowley said, “We’ve had that all year. I thought we played tougher tonight.

“Leeds set their stall out they wanted to close off the park early with the pack they picked to start the game. We had to be tough and play tough and it was pleasing we did that tonight.”

The Red Devils trailed 10-8 at the break, but Rowley admitted he was still relatively pleased after the first 40: “There wasn’t much wrong there, we were just a little bit off in some areas in offence. I think defensively and systematically and structurally we were really good. We just need to be honest in defence.”

He also had massive praise for star halfback and Man of the Match Marc Sneyd: “I think he comes up with some massive plays. He overruled me on the kick. I’d have taken the two, he ran it: great decision. We had that talk at the start of the season. If he’s feeling it on the pitch, that’s good leadership.”

He also claimed that Joe Burgess laid down a marker for a potential England call up with a game breaking moment breaking down field just ahead of Chris Atkins’ try.
