To the surprise of many, Salford Red Devils battered Hull FC this afternoon in a game many expected to be a closely contested match.
The Red Devils won 60-14 as their attack looked sensational however it was their defence that impressed Paul Rowley who said to OurLeague:
“We are that sort of team where we are clearly potent in attack but we needed more resilience in defence and we showed it today.
“The two highlights were Brodie Croft making two telling tackles on bigger fellas and I thought that was quite inspiring for the team.
“All the magic we did with the ball was great but those two tackles were great, our spine was fantastic and I’m really pleased.”
He also spoke highly of hooker Andy Ackers:
“He learnt how to play with more maturity, he is not chasing runs and is picking the right moments and he builds his game on defence.
“It was a mature performance from him. He is just getting his business done at the moment and we’re all really pleased for him.”
Meanwhile, Rowley highlighted the continuing adversity his side faces with only a squad of 19 for today’s game and that won’t get any easier:
“I don’t think we have any due back so it’ll be the same 19. It’ll be a new week, we don’t try any harder on any given week, we have a good group and I say that every week and we’ll give Wakefield every bit of respect like they deserve and like everyone does.
“We’re at home so hopefully we can put on a good performance.”
