Paul Rowley explains victory in France and confirms double blow to Salford Red Devils

Salford are again defying the odds as they often seem to do these days.

Written off at the start of the season, the Red Devils are chasing a play-off spot and secured back-to-back wins yesterday at the expense of the in form and survival chasing Toulouse.

Salford trailed 9-6 at halftime as Toulouse took every opportunity that came their way to get points on the board but a superb second half from the Red Devils saw Joe Burgess cross for a second and Ken Sio also score a brace as Salford won 24-11 to move into the play-offs.

After the game, Salford coach dissected the win praising his side for their character: “Plenty of character in this team. There’s been a few examples this season where we’ve been in the arm wrestle and had to come up with that little extra and tonight was one of those games.”

He added: “Our form in this second half of the season is a reflection of the hard work, commitment and effort the lads have been putting in every week.”

A good day for the Red Devils, but there were two significant blows with Danny Addy limping off and Ryan Brierley also proving to be a casualty.

Rowley gave an update on both: “Addy has ruptured his Achilles we believe so that’s him out for the season. I’m really disappointed for him as he’s been in top form.

“Brierley has failed his HIA so he’ll be out for Saints, which is a blow.”

Fortunately for Salford, Dan Sarginson is back in contention and could fill the void at fullback.
