Castleford Tigers have confirmed that overseas winger Mikaele Ravalawa will head to the Championship on loan with immediate effect.
It’s fair to say that the Fijian’s time at Castleford has been far from promising, with both injuries and poor performances giving him a bleak start to his Super League career.
Scoring four tries in 10 appearances, it is his efforts under the high ball and in defence that have left Tigers fans wondering where the NRL-quality player has gone, and why he is struggling so much in the north of England.
Ravalawa joined Castleford on a three-year deal, so still has plenty of time to turn it around, but in the short term, he has linked up with second-tier side Doncaster RLFC on loan.
The Fijian international will join the Dons until the end of the season, which comes as a shock given the recent long-term injury to Semi Valemei.
With Louis Senior also injured and Zac Cini no longer at the club, it leaves Ryan Carr’s side down on troops in the outside backs, so that could hint at a youngster potentially getting their chance in the coming weeks.
Doncaster are currently sixth in the Championship, and with six games to go before the play-offs look in strong contention to make the finals, which is an extended format this year.
