Out of contract Super League Dream Team

Now that 2023 has begun, there are plenty of Super League stars who are entering the final year of their deals this year.

So, here is a dream team of out of contract Super League stars.

Fullback: Sam Tomkins
In an exclusive group as one of the few players to win the Man of Steel twice, the England skipper last won it as recently as 2021. He has said, somewhat in jest, that he would do a job for former club Wigan Warriors in the halves. Either way, 2023 is presently his last contracted year at Catalans Dragons. Lachlan Coote of Hull KR is also in the final year of his deal.

Wingers: Lewis Murphy and Ryan Hall
One of the most exciting young wingers and one of Super League’s all time greatest are both out of contract in 2023. Lewis Murphy shone in 2022 with some amazing tries for Wakefield Trinity whilst Hull KR winger Ryan Hall formerly of Leeds Rhinos is chasing the record for the most ever Super League tries. Meanwhile, Leeds Rhinos winger David Fusitu’a is also in the final year of his deal.

Centres: Konrad Hurrell and Peter Mata’utia
After scoring in St Helens’ Grand Final win against his former club Leeds, Konrad Hurrell will feel right at home but is in the last year of his deal at the Totally Wicked Stadium. The same can be said of Warrington Wolves star Peter Mata’utia after he joined them from Castleford Tigers last year. Deon Cross of Salford Red Devils is another high profile centre in the final year of his deal.

Halfbacks: Brodie Croft and Tui Lolohea
The reigning Man of Steel Brodie Croft is in the final year of his current deal after a sensational first Super League season. Salford Red Devils are trying to tie him down to a new deal however they weren’t able to keep Tui Lolohea. He joined Huddersfield Giants last year and registered a magnificent 29 assists. Halfbacks like Leigh Leopards’ Lachlan Lam are also in the final year of their deals.

Props: Chris Hill and Chris Satae
Chris Hill was outstanding in both a Huddersfield Giants and England shirt last year. He equalled the record for the most ever World Cup appearances and was brilliant in 2022. Chris Satae of Hull FC likewise is one of the best props in Super League.

Hooker: Daryl Clark
A former Man of Steel, he is the ideal modern hooker with speed, strength, fitness, athleticism and smarts. Warrington Wolves will want to keep him.

Second-Rowers: James Bentley and Kallum Watkins
James Bentley has been linked with a move to the NRL. The Leeds Rhinos backrow was outstanding at the end of 2022 after a tough start to his Leeds career. A former Rhino meanwhile in Kallum Watkins was sensational as he switched to the backrow last year.

Loose-Forward: Morgan Smithies
An underrated loose-forward with great physicality and work rate. The ideal modern 13, he has been given the 13 jersey at Wigan for 2023. They’ll want to secure him long term.
