Ottawa trio re-sign for Workington

Workington Town have announced the signings of Dec O’Donnell, Calvin Wellington and Jake Moore from Ottawa Aces for the 2021 season.

This follows Ottawa’s decision to delay their entry into League One until 2022.

O’Donnell and Wellington left Town this year to secure full time contracts at the Aces. While Moore played for Town previously and made the move to Whitehaven where he played in the 2019 promotion team and made the League 1 Team of the Year.

He said: “It’s been a strange few months so I’m really happy to be back at Town. I really enjoyed my time here a couple of seasons ago and I’ll be back playing with old friends and some new faces.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about the set up here and Chris as a coach so I’m really looking forward to it. None of us have played since March and that’s too long to be out. I’ve been keeping myself fit so can’t wait for pre-season whenever that may be.”

O’Donnell said: ” I wouldn’t have left Town for any other League 1 team. they were really good to me since I joined on loan a couple of seasons ago.

“I’ll be back with my mates and can’t wait to be playing soon. 2020 has been a difficult year and I was looking forward to a good year with Town so it’ll be great to deal with unfinished business.”

Wellington adds: ”It was a wrench to leave and I was enjoying improving my game and learning all the time at Town. It’ll be great to meet up with the lads again and I look forward to smashing it in a really strong squad for 2021.”

Chris Thorman added:”They bring experience, skill, commitment and flair to an already strong squad. I cant wait to welcome them back to Derwent Park and have a great 2021.”
