One in, one out for the Warriors

New Zealand Warriors have signed Penrith forward Jack Hetherington on loan, after prop Poasa Faamausili was recalled by Sydney Roosters.

Faamausili has spent the last month with the club and had already agreed to extend his stay, however the Roosters have now made the decision to bring him back after suffering several injuries in their Round 7 game against St George.

“Having Poasa on loan was mutually beneficial for both clubs, said Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan. We’re sad to see him leave the group but he goes back far more ready to play after getting valuable game time over the last month.”

Hetherington, 24, arrives as a direct replacement having been on the fringes of the Panthers’ squad for the past two years.

He has made 16 NRL appearances to date and was Penrith’s 2018 Rookie of the Year.

O’Sullivan added: “(Head coach) Ivan Cleary, the Panthers and the NRL have been terrific in making Jack available so quickly after we lost Poasa. Jack had a breakout year in 2018 and will give us the qualities we’re looking for, a big man in the middle who carries the ball strongly and is tough defensively.”
