One club calls on fans to help clear snow to ensure game goes ahead

The country entered a cold snap yesterday with snow flurries throughout the day but the dropping temperatures last night and persistent snowfall throughout the night through to this morning has most of the country white over plunging sporting contests into doubt including Super League games.

There are four Super League games scheduled tonight.

Huddersfield Giants host Castleford Tigers in a game scheduled to be on Sky Sports and act as the Tigers refresh after the departure of Lee Radford.

Elsewhere two teams who have impressed early this season collide in Hull as Hull KR host Warrington Wolves who could go top of the league with a win by four points or more.

Champions St Helens will try and get back on track away at newly promoted Leigh Leopards who beat Hull KR last year,

Elsewhere there is a West Yorkshire derby at Headingley between Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity. Though the Rhinos have confirmed that this fixture will go ahead.

Now Hull KR have followed suit stating on Twitter: “Hull KR can confirm tonight’s game is on, Red Army bring your hats and scarves.”

Leigh vs St Helens is also likely to be on with now snow in that area meaning the only remaining fixture in doubt is Huddersfield Giants.

Expect an update from the Giants around midday with the Giants staff currently unable to get to the ground itself.

One game has been cancelled in the shape of Sheffield Eagles’ trip to Siddal in the Challenge Cup which will now be played at 2:30pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Bradford have asked for support in clearing snow from the pitch.

They released the following statement on Twitter:

“From 12:00pm tomorrow, we are seeking assistance with clearing snow off the pitch to ensure Sunday’s game can go ahead. Please bring your own snow shovel – you will be rewarded in Hot Drinks & Pie and Peas!”
