Oliver Gildart said to be ‘under pressure’ without even playing a game

The NRL media loves to put pressure on British players before they have even played a game Down Under – and that is exactly what is happening to new Wests Tigers recruit Oliver Gildart.

In an article by the Daily Telegraph which has listed the 16 players most under pressure to perform from each club in 2022, Gildart for some reason has been chosen as the Tigers’.

The Daily Telegraph has written: “Luke Brooks is usually the obvious answer here but Gildart arrives in Australia as somewhat of an unknown quantity. Very few English backs have come to the NRL and succeeded. Gildart gets a chance to buck that trend. Not overly tall but is well experienced with more than 100 games for Wigan and Tests for England and Great Britain. Has a clear shot at a centre spot.”

Talk about piling unnecessary pressure on someone before they have even started!

Gildart, who earned a reputation for being one of the most impressive attacking outlets in Super League, scoring 61 tries in 129 appearances for the Warriors, has looked very much at home at Concord since making the move from Wigan ahead of the 2022 season.

And, there will be eager eyes focused on the centre from both hemispheres, though to say he is the most under pressure to perform before he has even played a game isn’t really conducive to him playing his best rugby.
