Oldham sign fourth Wigan youngster

Oldham have signed a fourth youngster from Wigan, adding halfback James Barran to their squad for 2021.

The 22-year-old joins Warriors teammates Ben Holcroft, Max Roberts and Callum Green in making the move, while ex-Wigan outside back John Hutchings is already on the roster from this season.

Barran has progressed through the Cherry and Whites’ academy system and has already experienced first team rugby with promising loan spells at Leigh Centurions, London Skolars and Rochdale Hornets.

On the signing, Oldham head coach Matt Diskin said: “James is a talented kid, who needs to be playing at a higher level so as to challenge himself.

“He will undoubtedly add significantly to what is already a strong-looking squad with a nice mix of experience and youth and he will provide much-needed competition for the half-backs.

“I’m really pleased to sign James and the other young lads who have come through the Wigan system and I’m looking forward to working with them in pre-season and to seeing how they go.”
