Ambitious Championship side Oldham RLFC have confirmed their squad numbers for 2025 after signing ex-Super League star Josh Drinkwater.
Drinkwater was confirmed as the Roughyeds’ latest signing in what has been a recruitment cycle including plenty of former Super League stars, fleshing out their already impressive squad.
The Roughyeds won League One in 2024 and given the squad they’ve assembled for 2025, they’ll be having a real crack at challenging for the Championship title as well.
Under Sean Long’s coaching and the off-field investment from the likes of former player Mike Ford, it seems Oldham are a club set to soar up the IMG rankings. In 2024, they ranked 27th with a high Grade C meaning there is lots of scope for improvement.
They are bound to improve their performance score after their promotion but it’s a case of how high they can finish with their squad packed full of Super League stars, the squad numbers of which have now been confirmed.

The first thing to catch the eye is that their latest Super League recruit, Josh Drinkwater, does not claim the number seven which is typically given to the presumed started half.
Instead, number seven will be worn by one of Drinkwater’s former Warrington Wolves teammates with young Riley Dean claiming the shirt. That would seem to pit him as the likely starter alongside Danny Craven, for all the worth that a shirt number can reflect.
Drinkwater takes number 23 and he’s not the only ex-Super League man to boast a number outside of the first 13 with former Salford star Elijah Taylor (17), Brad Gallagher (26), Phoenix Laulu Togaga’e (31) and Wigan Warriors’ new signing George Hirst (30), who was also handed shirt number 34 for Wigan but is presumably back on loan with his old club.
Those former Super League men inside the first 13 numbers include recent signings Iain Thornley (4), Gil Dudson (8), Matty Ashurst (11) and Adam Milner (13).
