Wigan Warriors star Adam Keighran has made an admission over his future with the club, with a destination suggested.
The centre, who is going into the final year of his contract with Wigan Warriors after switching from Catalans Dragons, was part of an all-conquering squad in 2024.
The Australian didn’t play in the Challenge Cup final victory over Warrington Wolves due to suspension, but started in both the World Club Challenge win against Penrith Panthers and the Super League Grand Final against Hull KR which completed the set of having all four trophies.
He only had one year with Catalans Dragons, with his Super League move coming from NSW Cup side North Sydney Bears ahead of 2023.
His versatility was shown in a tough spell for Wigan Warriors when he played both in the six and seven in the halves due to an injury to Bevan French.
Wigan Warriors star makes “ideal” NRL move admission
Speaking on the Australian Keegan and Company podcast, he was asked whether he could return to Australia soon, where he admitted: “I’m pretty open.
“I’ve got another year with Wigan and I’m sure we’re going to be successful again.
“We’ve got quite the same team. I think we’ve lost two players and I’m not sure if there’s any other signings at the moment, but we’ve got such a good thing, so hopefully next year is as successful as this year.
“But, being back home would be such an ideal thing.”
The sole signing that Wigan Warriors have made is George Hirst from Oldham with the 23-year-old handed squad number 34 for the upcoming campaign but their thoughts will now turn to retention, with Keighran presumably near the top of the list given his contract status and what he adds to the team.
It has been a very successful 12 months in Lancashire for Keighran, and he continued: “For me, in Wigan, it’s such a successful club and such a good environment, so I can’t complain about being there.
“I’m happy there, but as I say, I’m open to seeing what’s available.
“If the opportunity comes back here (in Australia) maybe, but if not, I’m happy at Wigan… it’s such a good environment.”
He’s put somewhat of a stop to any NRL return talk with his praise and passion for Wigan shining through but stopped short of closing the door on any exit talks. With the Australian being among the best centres in Super League and boasting the added quality of being a supreme goal kicker, he’ll be a man in high demand.
