An off-contract NRL forward is reportedly ‘in the sights’ of a couple of Super League clubs as he bids to earn a contract for 2025.
Liam Knight has not given up hope on an NRL deal with the 29-year-old shifting ten kilos in his bid to attract an NRL suitor for the upcoming campaign and reports Down Under confirm there is interest.
However, the former Canterbury Bulldogs man is also reportedly ‘in the sights of a couple of clubs from England’ per The Molewriting for Wide World of Sports.
Knight has seen recent seasons plagued by injury so finds himself in a bid to prove that he is fit and raring to go before teams take a chance on him.
The fact that he finds himself still without a contract for 2025 highlights how wary sides are of taking a chance on the forward who has played just seven games across two seasons for the Bulldogs.
Canterbury prop on Super League radar
Only a handful of Super League sides would be able to sign Knight given their quota situation with just Castleford, Catalans and Huddersfield having open quota spots.
The 29-year-old prop started his career with Manly Sea Eagles, representing their Under-20s and later their New South Wales Cup team. He’d make his NRL debut in 2016 before making a move to Canberra Raiders.
Across two seasons in the nation’s capital, he’d make just nine appearances before joining South Sydney Rabbitohs where most of his success came. The prop made over 60 appearances for the Bunnies before being granted a release, at which point he joined the Bulldogs.
Since then, he has struggled with injury with the prop making five appearances during that 2023 season but only two in 2024.
It’s yet to be seen which NRL and Super League clubs are eying him up but they’ll have to account for his previous knee issues when they do so.
That said, the last Canterbury Bulldogs prop with a history of injuries who was signed to Super League turned out to be a Dream Team player in Luke Thompson.
