Off-contract NRL centre comments on Super League switch links

Super League

Super League linked centre Jake Averillo has rubbished reports linking him with a move to England.

Averillo’s contract at the Dolphins runs out at the end of the 2026 season and with question marks about his place in the team going forward, his future seems to be very much up in the air.

The 25-year-old has been heavily involved over the last two seasons at Dolphins, making 47 appearances and scoring 22 tries. But he faces competition for his place in the side with Selwyn Cobbo, Trai Fuller, Jack Bostock and Tevita Naufahu all pushing to start the season under Kristian Woolf.

As such, there has been a suggestion that he could be in line for a move to Super League, with St Helens the club linked with a move for him. The Saints are well stocked in the back line and the recent signing of Nene Macdonald seems to rule out a move for Averillo for the time being at least.

However, the centre has spoken out to confirm that a move to Super League is not on his radar with the Australian in talks of a new deal in Queensland.

“That was definitely news to me, moving to England,” Averillo said in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald.

“My manager said we’ve started [extension talks], so we’ll just see how it goes.

“I’ve missed a lot of training, so I’m just trying to focus on getting back to training and letting my management take care of all that stuff.”

Averillo started his NRL career with Canterbury Bulldogs and spent four seasons with the Sydney club before joining the Dolphins ahead of the 2024 season. He has 125 first grade appearances and 53 tries under his belt as a player.
