As Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors make their moves for 2024, the recruitment merry go round in 2023 goes on as Warrington Wolves, Hull KR, Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity all make their moves.
Even St Helens have been involved in some business. The Saints are expected to release Joey Lussick after today’s Challenge Cup semi-final despite the fact he is set to play a pivotal role in today’s semi-final with James Roby out through a head knock.
This is because Parramatta Eels have made a big play for the hooker to ease their injury crisis which was sparked by the long term loss of former Hull KR and England hooker Josh Hodgson for the rest of the season.
Saints have reportedly agreed to this move due to the fact they have secured a ready made replacement in the shape of Moses Mbye from St George Illawarra Dragons.
The Dragons are going through a shake up under new coach Shane Flanagan and according to the Daily Telegraph he won’t be the only player sent to Super League.
In fact they are reporting that Zane Musgrove will be released to join the Warrington Wolves for the rest of the season.
The Wolves have taken action when it comes to immediate signings bringing in Wakefield star Jordy Crowther.
The Wolves have been struggling in the pack due to injuries but also the exits of Thomas Mikaele and Josh McGuire.
Fascinatingly, the Wolves have been linked with bringing Mikaele back from Gold Coast Titans till the end of the year.
However, it seems now that Musgrove will be the man arriving at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Flanagan told 2GB on Saturday that he wanted hard-running prop Hame Sele.
“We’re in for Hame Sele, we need to boost our middle forwards and I feel he’s a good player,’’ Flanagan said.
“He’s 26-years-old, he’s originally from the Dragons and we’re in negotiations and hopefully it all comes off.’’
The Dragons have also told young halfback Jayden Sullivan that he can leave the club which also provides an exciting opportunity for Super League clubs in the market for a new halfback.
