Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC and Hull KR have all been able to secure major signings for next year especially from the NRL with Lachie Miller, former Huddersfield Giants star Kruise Leeming, Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Herman Ese’ese and Peta Hiku are all headed from the NRL and now another Super League club are set to join the fun with two reported signings.
Huddersfield Giants have long been linked with a move for Adam Clune from Newcastle Knights and that is not where their interest will end.
Now it is being reported by Daily Telegraph that Parramatta forward Jack Murchie will sign with Huddersfield on a three-year contract from next season.
Murchie has now been released from the final 12 months of his Parramatta contract to join the Super League.
Murchie, 26, has played just five games for the Eels this year after signing for the club from the Warriors. He has not been seen in the top grade since round six.
General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill said, “Jack is a wonderful person and we would like to thank him for his time at our Club and wish him all the best for his future.”
He is set to be joined by an NRL halfback too.
Despite reported interest from Hull FC and Leeds Rhinos, it is the Giants who have swooped in and signed Newcastle Knights halfback Adam Clune for the 2024 campaign.
This move has been confirmed by The Mole of Wide World of Sports.
According to the Mole he has signed a long term deal with the Giants.
The Giants are set to lose Theo Fages to Catalans Dragons. The former Salford Red Devils and St Helens star joined the club ahead of 2022 but has struggled through injuries during his career at the John Smith’s Stadium.
He is now set to return to France to play for Catalans Dragons and replace the departing Mitchell Pearce and Tyrone May ahead of the 2024 season.
Hull FC were the club who had led the way initially and recently that interest was confirmed by Newcastle Herald reporter Barry Toohey.
“I think there is interest. Hull are keen on Adam Clune and that is the talk. Whether he is prepared to go to England, I’m not 100% sure and there is talk that he is not,” Toohey said on the Toohey’s News podcast.
“I know the Knights haven’t discarded signing Adam Clune for next season. I’m not sure how far Hull are down the track with Clune or even if they are down the track with Clune going to England.
“I think he would be very good over there, he has played the last few NSW Cup games and he has played very well. I would try and keep him.”
After his most recent display for Newcastle Knights, coach Adam O’Brien was certainly impressed:
“Yeah, I think that’s what Jackson’s done really well this year is allowed, you know, this bloke and Tyson Gamble and Bradman Best, allowed them to be the best versions of themselves and then to lose your half back, you know, you’re not just losing a half back, you’re worried that it’s going to affect the rest of these guys; but Adam was exceptional, ran the team all week and he’s been doing it a long time in the New South Wales Cup.
“It’s been a tough year back there in the cup for him but he just doesn’t drop his lip, he gets on with it and he was the right man for the him but he just doesn’t drop his lip, he gets on with it and he was the right man for the job for us.”
